Christmas 2020
Wishing you all a happy and safe Christmas!
On Thursday, the 17th of December 2020, we had our Christmas Jumper Day. The children were treated to a streaming of A Christmas Carol from Siamsa Tíre, Tralee and enjoyed a treat of hot chocolate and marshmallows and cookies! Proceeds of this went to the local Lixnaw branch of St. Vincent de Paul. Non-perishable food items were also donated by the students. Thanks to everyone for their generosity to this worthy cause.

Team Hope Shoebox Appeal
Thanks to all those who filled shoeboxes to send out to children in Eastern Europe and Africa. The children who receive these shoeboxes are affected by poverty in different ways. Many come from families with very little income, others live on the margins of society or in areas affected by conflict. These shoeboxes will bring joy and excitement to these children.
Have a Spooktacular Halloween!
Our Digital Cluster
We have had great success with our Digital Cluster project, which includes Abbeydorney NS, Ardfert NS, Educate Together Tralee and ourselves. Our Virtual Explorers project was selected from 150 entries to be one of the 50 entries to showcase at the Féilte event in NUIG on the 28th September. From that 50 we were amongst 4 projects that were represented at the ‘final’ Teachers Inspire Event in the Helix in DCU. Unfortunately we did not win the overall accolade but the national recognition for our project has provided great motivation for our VR goggles.

Friendly Match
We were all deeply saddened to learn of the untimely death of Paul Wallace. As well as being a past parent, he remained a true friend and supporter of our school. Paul visited our school as the proud Chairperson of Lixnaw Hurling Club with the successful Senior Hurling team just last month. We are shocked by his passing and wish to express our deepest sympathies to his wife Theresa and his three sons, Seán, Robert and Jason. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Retirement of Master John McAuliffe
School Tour 2017
The boys went on their school tour this year to Spike Island, and luckily as Master McAuliffe's final school tour, it was deemed as the best school tour we had ever been on. We left the school at 7:30 a.m. and headed for Cobh, from where we got speed boats across the water to Spike Island. The children were treated to army style commands and were marched up to the Fort where we had a very interesting tour of the prison. They then had great fun with an assault course and spot the sniper games. You'll see from the photos below, that when dressed in getty suits, it was sometimes impossible to find the children in the woods. We came back across the water again in the boats before we headed off to Killarney Outlet Centre for shopping. A truly great day was had by children and teachers alike.
Trip to Airfield Farm
First and Second Class were named as national finalists in the Moo Crew art competition. The children created beautiful pictures to show the importance of dairy in their diet and the importance of exercise and healthy living. The Moo Crew were extremely impressed with the standard of their work that they chose them as one of the top three classes in Ireland among thousands of entries. They were rewarded with a trip to Airfield Farm in Dublin. We left very early in the morning of the 19th of June and had a fantastic day. The sun was shining down on us and the children got to see the beautiful gardens where Airfield Farm grow their produce and they got to meet the different animals. They planted sunflower seeds. There were lovely playgrounds to play in and the boys got a training session with Olympian sprint hurdler Derval O' Rourke. She commented on what a sporty bunch the boys were. Scoil Mhuire De Lourdes were named as runners up in the Junior Category and received a plaque and a sports equipment voucher valued at €250.

Commemoration of the 1916 Rising
Two members of the Irish army visited our school to help commemorate the 1916 Rising and the founding of the Irish Free State. It was a great experience. There was a great question and answer session and the children asked some great questions. Eoghan Stack read aloud from the proclamation and Darragh Mannion and Sean Shanahan received the Irish flag and proclamation. Balloons in the tri-colours were also released.

A Welcome Visitor
Proudly in our staffroom,

Bruised like our Captain,
It has taken a few hits.

Promotion to Division 1,
always was the aim,
But first we had to lift
'The Cup with No Name'.
Kerry hurling is now at its peak.
A proud moment for our teacher,
Mr. Griffin, also known as Tweek.
