Retirement of Master John McAuliffe
School Tour 2017
The boys went on their school tour this year to Spike Island, and luckily as Master McAuliffe's final school tour, it was deemed as the best school tour we had ever been on. We left the school at 7:30 a.m. and headed for Cobh, from where we got speed boats across the water to Spike Island. The children were treated to army style commands and were marched up to the Fort where we had a very interesting tour of the prison. They then had great fun with an assault course and spot the sniper games. You'll see from the photos below, that when dressed in getty suits, it was sometimes impossible to find the children in the woods. We came back across the water again in the boats before we headed off to Killarney Outlet Centre for shopping. A truly great day was had by children and teachers alike.
Trip to Airfield Farm
First and Second Class were named as national finalists in the Moo Crew art competition. The children created beautiful pictures to show the importance of dairy in their diet and the importance of exercise and healthy living. The Moo Crew were extremely impressed with the standard of their work that they chose them as one of the top three classes in Ireland among thousands of entries. They were rewarded with a trip to Airfield Farm in Dublin. We left very early in the morning of the 19th of June and had a fantastic day. The sun was shining down on us and the children got to see the beautiful gardens where Airfield Farm grow their produce and they got to meet the different animals. They planted sunflower seeds. There were lovely playgrounds to play in and the boys got a training session with Olympian sprint hurdler Derval O' Rourke. She commented on what a sporty bunch the boys were. Scoil Mhuire De Lourdes were named as runners up in the Junior Category and received a plaque and a sports equipment voucher valued at €250.

Our Mini School Tour
Our school went on a mini school tour to Tralee to the Wetlands where the children engaged in some pond dipping and then learned about mini beasts before we headed onto the Ashe Memorial Hall for a Halloween experience where they took part in an art activity, watched a Halloween movie and then they bravely walked through the Haunted Hall. It was a very enjoyable day.

Congratulations to the Lixnaw Minor Hurling team who defeated St. Brendan's to become County Champions.
Commemoration of the 1916 Rising
Two members of the Irish army visited our school to help commemorate the 1916 Rising and the founding of the Irish Free State. It was a great experience. There was a great question and answer session and the children asked some great questions. Eoghan Stack read aloud from the proclamation and Darragh Mannion and Sean Shanahan received the Irish flag and proclamation. Balloons in the tri-colours were also released.
UP KERRY!
Radio Kerry visited our school and recorded some of the students talking about their favourite Kerry footballer. Principal John McAuliffe also spoke about his memories of past pupils Eamonn Fitzmaurice and Paul Galvin when they attended the school. A Welcome Visitor
Proudly in our staffroom,
The Battered Cup sits.
Bruised like our Captain,
It has taken a few hits.
With green and gold draped
over the side,
Gone is the saying
'never the bride'.
Promotion to Division 1,
always was the aim,
But first we had to lift
'The Cup with No Name'.
Kerry hurling is now at its peak.
A proud moment for our teacher,
Mr. Griffin, also known as Tweek.
